blinded by the light

Spring and summer sun sparks new interest in sunglasses for me.  I like to invest in one nice pair of sunglasses each year and with the lovely weekend predicted ahead of us, it’s the perfect time to be prepared.  SUPER has recently released this special edition UV ray-blocker sunny that I am swooning over. They call it “black puma”.  I feel I could be fierce and “puma” like if I had these on, right?  SUPER sunglasses are handmade in Italy with very close attention to detail (notice the oh-so delicate gold hardware) and with only 60 pairs made, these are certainly a SUPER summertime special.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to get outside and enjoy this weather.

mom knows best

My mom tears things out of, well, everything. She has always done this and ever since I have not “lived under their roof”, my mom sends me little packages with inspirational articles, newspaper cutouts and, of course, magazine tears- some of which I read and some of which I laugh to myself and think- why?  A couple of weeks ago she said- “have you send the new Anthro magazine? The jewelry on the cover is so cool (see bracelet pic)- I’m going to send it to you.”   Maybe mom hasn’t realized yet that everything is online, and the tapping of a few keys can show me anything I want to see (hey, mom, I still love my packages!).  Nonetheless, mom was right (aren’t moms always right?)

Clearly she also has great taste.

zara: may trf lookbook

Zara has been hitting the nail on the head the past few seasons.  As a one of the top contenders in international fast fashion retailing, the Spanish company moves at breakneck speeds to roll out on-trend affordable fashion each week. According the businessweek, they are so fast, the company can go from design concept to store shelf in two weeks.  As someone who works in product development I am telling you: this is fast.  Not to mention, Zara usually has something for everyone and the price is always right.

My dilemma is this: since the temporary closing of the 34th street store I have sadly been banished to shop online or in my rare passing of another inner-city location.  Remember the brand’s winter collection? I nearly bought out the store with my tri-weekly visits, and I am not kidding. Tri-weekly.  This is the May TRF lookbook.  Dainty white lace and bleach denim is the perfect fusion of sexy cool.  Oh yeah, and haven’t you heard? My birthday is this month.

Just sayin….

fancy schmancy: nail rock

Some things are almost too good to be true: coffee crème brulee, sequins, champagne (only to name a few).  Nail polish is also one thing I would not want to live without.  In a perfect world, my nails would be a different color everyday (if I had the time, inclination and steady hand)- I love mixing it up.  In come the nail wraps with their long-lasting staying power, chip resistance and intricate designs that simply could not be painted on. Whew! This sure makes life more beautiful.

“Nail Rock” is one of the biggest nail wrap products on the market right now.  The brand also does “Eye Rock” and “Lip Rock” designs (these being a little too outrageous for most to pull off) but cool nevertheless- not to mention a unique way to accessorize an outfit. “Nail Rock” collaborates with seasonal designers to create these amazing looks and the best part is that they are affordable AND accessible.  All the above designs can be purchased at ASOS for only $11.65!  Most of the styles are limited editions.

Which look would you rock?

you nasty, nasty gal

This rain has caused a consistent string of really bad hair days, nights stretching well past 12PM, and I watched A Walk to Remember last night- need I say more? Ok, ok, I’ll stop my bitching and being nasty.  Speaking of nasty- check out the May photo shoot from online retailer Nasty Gal.  Not only are the dissonant patterns and clashing colors perfectly in line with my intense week, they also highlight true beauty Hannah Holman (thanks FGR).  Umm, and did you notice the nails? This is awesome enough in itself to make me feel better.

Thankfully it's hump day. XXX
